How to configure an Item?

This article explains about the item configuration and it's association to the category and variant/add-on groups.

Items are an integral part of the menu structure. This article will provide a detailed walkthrough of how an item is created.

To create an Item, go to Ordering → Items. Click on Add Item.

In the New Item page, follow the pointers below:

  • Title: Enter the name of the item. (Ex: Veg. Manchurian, Fries, etc)

  • CRM title: This is a reference name for internal use. This will not be visible on the aggregator UI.

  • Merchant Ref. Id: If the brand is integrated with a POS (Point of Sale), enter the item ID of this item created in the POS. If there is no POS integration, you can configure it as -1.

  • Price: Enter the selling price at which the item has to be sold on the aggregator.

  • Mark Up Price: It is used to implement slash price to an item, where the "Markup Price" is the undiscounted price of the item, and "Price" is the discounted price of the item (applicable only for Meals For One item on Zomato).

  • Description: Enter the description of the item.

  • Item Category: Select the category (from the drop-down) to which the item belongs.

  • Sort order: You can specify the number that will decide the sequence of the item. Depending on the sequence you add, the items will be visible in the order on the aggregator UI (Ex: 0,1,2..n). "0" will be given the highest priority and the item will appear on the top while the item with sort order "n" will appear at the bottom.

  • Food Type: Select the type of food (from the drop-down) depending on whether the item is Vegetarian, Non-vegetarian, or Eggetarian.

  • Active: Enabling the flag would keep the item to be a part of the menu on the aggregator, if disabled the item will not be a part of the menu pushed on the aggregator.

  • Is Recommended: Enabling this flag would push the item in the Recommended section of the aggregators. (Reference link: Recommended Items and Bestsellers)

  • Exclude platforms: If there are certain items which are specific to certain aggregator like Swiggy and are not supposed to reflect on the other platforms like Zomato or Dunzo, then select Zomato from the drop-down available to exclude the item from Zomato or any other platform.
  • Image Association: Aggregator platforms like Zomato and Swiggy support images for the items on their UI. The image should be of right format and size (.png or .jpeg and 400x400 px.) on the item page. There is also support for aggregator specific images.
    If there is a brand that has different images on Swiggy and Zomato. Images can be uploaded by following the below-mentioned steps:
    1. Click Upload Image
    2. Select the required image
    3. Select the respective aggregator platform for the image

  • Store Association: Choose the stores where this item is to be available to be sold.

  • Option Group Association: For items that have customizations, associate the corresponding Option groups. To understand more about option groups and options (Variants and Add-ons) refer to Customization and How to add customization to an item?

Once done, click Save.
