What is Menu Category?

Categories are used to classify the items of your menu under different groups to let the customer browse the menu easily.

Menu categories should reflect on how your physical menu is organized.

For example, let's assume you own a kiosk where you sell the items: Garlic Bread, Cheese sticks, Margherita Pizza, Chicken Pizza, and Coke. To simplify the menu, you can categorize the items as:

  • Appetizers

  1. Garlic Bread

  2. Cheese Sticks

  • Pizza

  1. Margherita Pizza

  2. Chicken Pizza

  • Beverages

  1. Coke

Here, Appetizers, Pizza, and Coke become your categories.

What is Sub-Category?

A category can be further divided into Subcategories.

For example, the category "Veg Pizza" can be further divided into Classic and Favourites.

  • Veg Pizza

  1. Classic

  2. Favourites

Here, Classic and Favourites are the subcategories of the parent category, Veg-Pizza.

What is Category Sorting?

Organizing the categories & placing each category in a unique order is category sorting. The menu is popularly sorted based on the course of the meal but you can forego this pattern and customize the category sort order as required.
